Located on the banks of the Kirtankhola river, the former name of this city is Chandradeep. It is called the Venice of Bengal.

Geographical Location:

It was established as a district in 1797. Chandpur, Madaripur, and Shariatpur districts in the north, and Barguna Patuakhali and Jhalkathi districts in the south. To the east are Lakshipur and Bhola districts and the mighty Meghna River. Pirojpur Gopalganj in the west is also part of Jhalkathi district. The beautiful rivers of this district are Meghna, Arial Khan, Bishkhali River, Kirtnkhola etc.


Population And Occupation:

About 23 lakh 771 people live in the whole district. Among them, the education rate is 75.3%. The people of this district are more hospitable, religious, and simple. In one word, pure Bengali means what it means. The main income crop of this district is rice, so Most of the families in the district are dependent on agriculture. Different types of rice are grown in the agricultural land of this district such as Iri, Aush, Aman rice, etc.

Tourist Place In Barisal:

Some of the noteworthy tourist places of the Barisal district are the Guthia Mosque, Durga Sagor Dighi, Floating Guava Market, Satla, Government Brajmohan College, etc.

Guthia Mosque:

One of the tourist places in Barisal district is Guthia Mosque or Baitul Aman Jame Masjid. Guthia Mosque is one of the largest Jame Masjid in Asia. It was established in the twentieth century. Guthia Mosque is located in Guthia Union of Ujirpur Thana of Barisal District. 11 km from Barisal District. This huge Jame Masjid is located on 14 acres of land. This mosque has an Eidgah Maidan with a capacity of 20,000 people. About 1500 worshipers can pray in the mosque. The height of the minaret of the mosque is about 193 feet. This mosque has a ghat pond. There is a flower garden near to it. Going to this place gives a different kind of peace.

Durga Sagor Dighi:

12 km from Barisal city. It is located in Madhavpasha on Swarupkathi-Barisal road. You can see the natural scenery at this place. Dighi has 3 tied ghats. There is an island in the middle of the lake which adds to the beauty of the lake. There are many types of plants around the lake. These trees enliven the area with the chirping of birds. Durga Sagar Lake can be visited at any time of the year. Arrival occurs. Thousands of birds of about 6 species including sarail and sandeel ducks live in Kolarba.

Floating Guava Market:

The largest guava orchard in the Asia continent has been developed in the border area of ​​Jhalkathi, Barisal, Opirojpur district. It is about 15 km from Jhalkathi district. and 33 km from Barisal district. Farther Viruli has the largest floating guava market in Bangladesh. July-August is the guava season but sometimes the market runs till September. August is the best time to visit the floating guava market. While going in the canal with a trawler or a boat, the dense green forest on both sides of the canal gives a different kind of pleasure.


Satla-Shapla village:

Shapla village, Satla is like a state of Shapla, thousands of red Shapla in the water of the bill defeats even the red light. The distance from Barisal Sadar to Satla is 7 km. 3 types of Shapla are grown here, red, white, and purple. However, red bees are seen more. In these 3 months from August to October, bees are blooming in this place. If you want to see bees, you have to go early in the morning. At twelve o'clock, the bees are extinguished or the bees are taken away by sellers to sell.

Government Brajmohan College:

Brajmahan College is one of the top local and ancient traditional educational institutions in Bangladesh. Ashwini Kumar Dutta, a famous social worker, politician, and education enthusiast, founded the college in 1889. At that time, the college was under Calcutta University. At that time, the quality of reading in this college was so high that it was called the Oxford of Bengal. Bir Shrestha Mohiuddin Jahangir, Poet Jibanananda Das, Poet Altaf Mahmud, and many other famous people have obtained degrees from this college.

Barisal district can be reached very easily from any region of Bangladesh. You can reach Barisal district in 6-8 hours by road from Dhaka Gabtali Bus Termina to Bus Yoke.
